This character is the sidekick of the story. Internally he is known as Autumn but his name is never mentioned so he is just know as the dog.
His role is as a shepherd dog, guiding a magical flock of sheep out of a forested valley. This is all mixed with the theme of the changing seasons and cycle of life.
Originally he used to be a counterpart to the shepherd girl in the story but only his design of the old, experienced master stayed.
In the final story he is rather the loyal, protective shepherd dog.
