My absolute favorite piece. Comes from a dark place though. After the sudden loss of a best friend to suicide. My dad and I worked together to translate a french poem for this piece too. It's by a poet named Saint-Denys-Garneau.
English Version
Bird Cage
I am a bird cage
A bone cage
with a bird
The bird in its cage of bones
Death, making its nest
When it's quiet
We can hear it, rustling its feathers
And when we laugh a lot
If all suddenly ceases
We can hear it coo
In the background
Like a chime
It's a bird held captive
Death, in my cage of bones
If it wanted to fly away
Would you hold it back?
Would I?
What would?
It will only leave
After it's eaten it all
My heart
The blood source
Where life resides
With my soul in its beak
